A visit to Museum Kranenburgh is a visit to the artists’ village of Bergen. The Ruin church is a 15th century church on the Raadhuisstraat in the busy center of Bergen and offers many possibilities for a pleasant outing with friends and family. The Ruin church is less than 500 meters from our hotels. In the summer there are many activities around the Ruin Church. There is of course the Saturday market, food events and the famous art markets. The restaurants in the village welcome you before or after a visit to the Ruin church.

Bergen / Schoorl and its surroundings are a paradise for walkers. It has, among other things, its highest and widest dunes in the Netherlands. There are few places in the Netherlands where so many different landscapes come together. You can walk here in dunes, forests, heaths, along fortresses and much more. A much known walking route is the Duinheide walk in Schoorl. (purple route of 11km).
Our tip: Take the 51m high climbing dune in the middle of the village of Schoorl. Guaranteed fun for children.

An adventurous journey through another time begins … Enjoy the adventure and travel on this historic steam train. The steam train runs between Hoorn-Medemblik-Enkhuizen. You can also book this steam train in combination with a trip on the IJsselmeer in a historic boat. At the atmospheric train station you travel 100 years into the past. Take a look at the signal box and the workshop. Ask for the brochure of the departure times.

If you are looking for a pristine beach, you are sure to find what you are looking for at one of the beautiful sandy beaches of Bergen,no more than 3 miles away. During the day you sit with your feet in the sand, transplant yourself and laze around, belong to the sand and the sea. We call it barefoot chic here. In the evening you can dine with a sea view. The chef prepares his focus on authentic products for the interests of the region. Of course it comes straight from the fish from the real North Sea!

Thousands of visitors from all over the world come to Alkmaar, especially for the cheese market. It is therefore a spectaculair demonstration with a square full of cheese and hauling cheese carriers, cheese setters, traders, farmers, cheese girls and the chariot masters with horse and cart, all play in this special and musical theater game. The show is presented in Dutch, German and English.

Stedelijk Museum Alkmaar is one of the oldest museums in the Netherlands and connects people, art and history. The museum presents a fine collection of old and modern art, crafts and urban history. Lovers of the Bergen School movement can indulge themselves in the museum. Naturally, the museum has a permanent exhibition with masterpieces from the 17th century. In the ‘Golden Age of Alkmaar’ you enter a world of development, well-being and wealth.

Discover the history and tradition of Dutch merchant shipping, fishing and cheese making. Visit the typical Dutch villages and relive the history. From Bergen you drive through the flower bulb fields and visit the Old Dutch villages as if time has stood still. Edam, Volendam, Marken and Monnickendam, with its churches and wooden fishermen’s houses. Via the Zaanse Schans you can see the impressive spectacle of the countless windmills and see where the windmill blades are turning at full speed.

Egmond aan Zee is the perfect coastal town with one of the most beautiful sandy beaches in the Netherlands. Relax, look at infinity, sun or paddle, fly a kite, build sand castles, look for shells. There is also plenty to do in Egmond itself. Stroll along the boulevard along the shops and terraces. Explore the lighthouse or enjoy a delicious dinner in one of the many restaurants with the sun setting ……… It’s all possible in Egmond aan Zee.

Get on the train in Alkmaar and you will be in the heart of Amsterdam in 35 minutes. No city is as colorful and versatile as Amsterdam: old canals, monumental buildings, and all its special museums. Absolute highlights are the Anne Frank House, the Van Gogh, Stedelijk and Rijksmuseum. Or discover the city from the water with a canalcruise .
