Bergen, Schoorl and the surrounding region are a paradise for walkers. Here you will find some of the highest and widest dunes in the Netherlands. Few places in the country offer such a variety of landscapes within such a short distance. Walk through dunes, forests, heathlands, past historic fortifications and much more. One of the most popular walking routes is the Duinheide Trail in Schoorl (purple route, 11 km).
Our tip: Visit the 51-metre-high Climbing Dune in the centre of Schoorl. Guaranteed fun for children.
Museum Kranenburgh is well worth a visit in the artists' village of Bergen. Once you leave the museum and wander through the village or nearby forests, you'll understand why so many artists settled here more than 100 years ago. The remarkable greenery, the unique coastal light and the nearby dunes and beach have inspired painters, poets, composers and photographers for generations.
The Ruin Church is a 15th-century church located on Raadhuisstraat in the lively centre of Bergen and offers plenty of opportunities for a pleasant outing with friends and family. The church is less than 500 metres from our hotels. During the summer, many events take place around the Ruin Church, including the weekly Saturday market, food events and the famous art markets. The village restaurants are happy to welcome you before or after your visit.

Thousands of visitors from around the world come to Alkmaar specifically to experience the famous cheese market. It is a unique spectacle featuring a square filled with cheese, traditional cheese carriers, merchants, farmers, cheese girls and horse-drawn carts. Together they bring this historic and musical performance to life. The show is presented in Dutch, German and English.
